Sorry I've not been here for a couple of days! Basically, it's hugely down to the move. I called my father on Friday and we managed to pack EVERYTHING into the car and get it to my parent's house. Hence, as of roughly 1pm Friday, Zen and I now live with the folks again. Here's a run down of what has happened since then:
I've booked my tickets for the trip through to Birmingham next week. I'll get there at roughly 12 noon Saturday, and my return train is roughly 1pm. Rather than the £60 price tag, after the purchase of my rail card it cost me £20! Much much friendlier. I'm really looking forward to being there again.
Friday night at the Cumberland (pub I now work in) went quite well, and I'm looking forward to next weeks shift. It was nice to be welcomed back by so many familiar faces, all of whom seemed more or less pleased to see me.
Saturday was a L.A.R.P day. That is, I got up stupidly early, was kindly given a lift to Jen and Russ's house, had breakfast there and zoomed off to Gelt Woods in Barbara's car to be a healer for several hours. In typical (or so I'm told, it was my first session) style, instead of the planned 10am start we got going at 11. Someone had had problems with an exhaust and so was late whilst someone else had overslept. Add to this that it was "a soft day" (read RAINING). I thoroughly enjoyed it however, and there were some pretty emotional points in the game - the highlight for me being a Lay to Rest ceremony for the horribly tortured body of an innocent 8 year old named Elspeth. Thobbi the Hobbits singing skills are to be utilised in future games! Lunch was a mini adventure in itself. We stopped for a bite to eat with another party, who on leaving us after sharing their food etc turned around and announced that they were bandits. Lovely. All our hard stolen money disappeared…. It has to be said I think we managed to frighten a number of "normals" with the shields, weapons, armour and general clothing, conversation and demeanour during our escapades. Luckily the several little scuffles with demons, zombies and ghouls were uninterrupted by passers by.
We were going to leave at about 4:30ish and head to the pub for debriefing, food and a pint. However, the car wouldn't start so at 6, when the repair man finally arrived and got it going virtually instantly, it was relished that little bit more.
I came in last night a very soggy, tired, achy and happy thing. I'm looking forward to the next one, but have declined to think about attending one of the large events until the November one. Mostly funds, but partly time dictates that saving up and going to Birmingham as much as I can takes priority at the moment, but once I'm there I'll consider it more seriously. It has to be said here that I was previously planning to attend the Spring Parliament as well as the main Gathering, but it's no longer practical to be at either.
Now let me see… oh yes, Zen. Well he's getting steadily braver about being close to the dog. However today (Sunday) he's sulking. We gave him a bath this morning and he WAS NOT impressed. He's curled up on my pillow (the only space available in my room at the moment… I will get it sorted out before work on Tuesday, I will!) making it rather soggy. Other than that, very little has happened. I'm missing the freedom of my own place, but I'm not badly off. It's just a little frustrating having to ask every time I wish to use the phone, or use the internet etc.
Speaking of, I'd better get going. I'm currently writing this in Word so I've more time to play with online, but if I don't post it now I'll forget too… not unlike a couple of other things I need to sort!
Speak to you soon DJ...
