Ebb's Random Rambles

This journal is largely FRIENDS ONLY
however if you'd like to be added, comment on this post with the whys and wherefores.

I generally add people whom I wish to allow access to certain posts and information, not out of a sense of obligation.
Equally, please do not feel obliged to add me in return.

If you're friended, my contact details are here. If I know you well enough, you can find my address on this post here. Both of these posts are 'forward dated' and appear just below this entry if you're viewing my journal. Alternatively you can leave a message for me at my Cbox or email me at ebb[at]livejournal[dot]com.

A further explination of how this journal works and the various settings I use can be found here, which I ask that you read before adding me / commenting.

Ebb: A female goth, rather fond of red, who doesn't take life or herself too seriously, is a total drama queen, is very lucky to have an array of rather fab friends and who uses her journal as a constant reminder of both the bizarre and the mundane.
[Level - Public]

Randomness you don't need to read behind this cut... for level access read the non-cut bit! )

I shall be posting the level from now on at the top of my posts:

Because I have rather a lot of various levels which I occasionally use.
And because previous entries have been pushed and explored far more than I wanted them to be when I least expected it. It was stupid of me to allow it to happen, but I thought I could trust those who could see it. And also because not all the various friend settings show the level of a post, and a little lock is easy to miss.

I don't want to stop posting, but have kept pretty much anything important to me private since. Which isn't ideal. Nor do I want to unfriend anyone - what happens now and in the future doesn't change what has happened in the past.

So to make it clear and obivious, to use my lj "properly"*:

Public: is the only one for everyone's consumption.

Friends: denotes that there are at least smatterings of semi private bits (!).

B: a step on from friends, but generally due to precise locations or full names etc

B2: very little difference to B

C1: trusted with some details

C2: trusted with a few bits more

C3: one of a very very small group that I trust with everything I wish to be known

D's: custom group, just for you

But whatever you can see, remember - I put up the details I want to, and don't expect anyone to take liberties and ask for / search for more. Things will remain cryptic for a very good reason - if you want more detail to clarify something that's confused you, get in touch. A post may not be at all relevant to you, it's just that you belong to that level setting.

At the end of the day, this is MY journal and I won't have it abused. You are my friends, the people I know and hope I can trust. Please respect my wishes.

*as others do to a huge degree of success, point taken.

Incidentally - if comment features are removed, it's because I don't want to take it any further. I don't often do this but if I do, contact me irl. I use lj often to get through to people in a convenient way. It isn't the most ideal form of communication and it has it's drawbacks but it means people can read and take things in in their own time and own way, without being swamped by emails and can look back as often as they wish.

Hi everyone! Just to let you know that the Repo! Scalpel Necklace is back on sale. There's a limited final run of 300 (I've got two ordered (one for me and one for my sis) so if you were after one, I'd get in sharp.

[personal profile] devalmont - didn't get you one as I wasn't 100% on whether or not it was something you fancied. Hope this is okay.

Is anyone in the Cambridge area currently after a new room-mate/flat-mate/house-mate? NOT for me or Rich I hasten to add.

One of the guys I know through work (Pete, tall blonde Larper and all round good chap of a geeky and techy persuasion) is shortly being kicked out of his current place as the pub he lives above is being leased to a different owner and he can't stay put.

He comes with an assortment of weapons, is a non-smoker and non-pet owner (unless you count his beard). Anyone interested, or know of anyone who's looking for somewhere / someone, please let me know either on the public unscreened lj post, or comment on the note over on Facebook. He'll have access to both!

Well, that weekend was a good one, mostly*!

In summary:

Met a thoroughly charming bunch of people who I hope to see again
Popped my Flock cherry
Discovered Evil Eye and Whitby Jet shop
Fell in love with a shower head
Had lots of tea (no euphanism)
Popped my Sheep cherry
Watched lots of men in uniform
Discussed life, the universe and everything with a few people
Made it to Peterborough, Leeds, York, Leeds and back safely thanks the very kind efforts of several people

Thank you, I really needed a weekend away x

Slightly less brief version )

All in all, cracking weekend.

More of these please! Mind you, I might have to make sure I have fewer nights away, my back isn't being very nice to me right now. The dancing, wedges and corset probably didn't help either but....

*shattered but happy*

Erm. So. Jogging gear.

I might need a .... hoodie. To cover up and stay warm when it's cooler. Me. In a hoodie. UGH!

So, I've decided I want this black one here;

Stuff it, if I'm going to jog, I'm going to jog in STYLE baby, yeah!

Help needed - I want to get to Ikea tomorrow (better quality than Argos) as, whislt I know what I want and they deliver, the earliest is 13th May and quite frankly, I'll be in an asylum by that point.

Is anyone able to take me to Ikea (whichever is easiest for you from Cambridge) tomorrow for petrol money and lots of hugs and a meal?

Everything I'm planning on buying is self assembly and flat packed but the bigger the car, the better.

(so that those few of you from his lj and not mine can see this)

So, August 1st 2004 was an important day in the lives of [livejournal.com profile] devalmont and [livejournal.com profile] ebb. It was (as we both agree) the day we officially got together as a couple, though it had been on the cards for a little while. Since that time, we’ve been through ups, downs and have become desperately good friends. I love him to bits and he tells and shows me that he loves me to bits too. Which is why it’s with a bit of sadness that April 20th 2009 needs to be mentioned, as it’s the day we decided to move on to other things.

Why this is on lj )

Why and how we've come to this decission )

What's next )

Tea, hugs, sympathy will all be very much appreciated but not wholly necessary – honestly, coping okay. But feel free to drag me out to things, I might have a tendency to hermit otherwise. I’m pretty sure Rich will say a similar thing!

Lastly, I’ve invested a lot of time and energy into this relationship – we both did. I don’t regret a second of it and I’m sad to see it go. But I’m happy that I’ve got a wonderful friend at the end of it and I’m convinced we’re both doing the best thing for each other and for ourselves. The time is right to move on. Regardless, thanks for our time together Rich, it was really special. x

Sooooo, I'm being brave and having a sort. This is no small task when it comes to clothes. The photos you are about to see are the room at it's worst - yes, we have a ROOM for my clothes. It was all beautifully organised but the hanging rails collapsed under the weight of the clothes and I've been meaning to sell things for ages. I now have my own camera, so can only justify having it if I make it pay for itself. Hence, it's encouraging me to do something about the ROOM.

I'll be putting up clothes and bits for sale later today, and will wait until Tuesday before posting over on [livejournal.com profile] niceboots and [livejournal.com profile] thriftstoreuk so if you're a reader of mine, you get first dibs.

I will only sell only things I'd happily wear myself (or use... if I fitted into them, or they were my style any more), and I'm picky - the rest will get trashed / if it's okay will go to second hand shops.

Some of you are, but most of you aren't, aware that [livejournal.com profile] alixandrea, Paul (with no lj) and me are in the planning stages of presenting a Goth night on 209 radio (105fm). We had a meeting tonight (which I'm just in from, and am soaked as the heavens opened on me) to basically swap some tracks around, get a hold on what we all thought it is, or isn't, and generally have a bit of a natter.

It's prompted me to look into a few bands I'd not heard of, always a good thing.

But it's also made me curious and this is where I need your help EVERYONE please.

Name a few tracks that, in your view, come under the 'Goth' umbrella.

Time period, style etc are pretty much irrelevant - and if you don't count yourself as a 'Goth', even better actually. What are your pre-conceptions of a typical Goth track? There is, let me make myself clear, no 'wrong' answer here. I'm curious! :)

If everyone on my friends list (here on lj and over there on facebook) could give me three tracks, that'd be a huge help.

(ino, walking in the rain at night listening to Muse's 'Invincible' is a great way to spend a few minutes, so long as you know there's a warm house and fluffy towel at the end of your stomp!)

So, [livejournal.com profile] devalmont has put this post up about REPO! The Genetic Opera.

I don't think I can add much to it. Except to say it's currently one of my favourite films.

It's not for everyone, it's especially to be avoided if you don't like gore, blood, needles, knives and other things of that nature, so consider this a potential trigger warning. The subject matter (a future where organ failure is commonplace, and GeneCo will give you new body parts on a loan-repayment basis but if you fail to pay up, the Repo man will come and remove said organs...) isn't for everyone. Nor is the fact that it's a Rock Opera. Starring Sarah Brightman, Anthony Steward Head, Paris Hilton (DO NOT let that put you off, she's surprisingly good), Ogre from Skinny Puppy etc etc... with lots of scantily clad men and women.

However, if that doesn't put you off, please, please, PLEASE take a moment or several to check out the official site repo-opera.com. Listen to the soundtrack. Attack youtube and see what goodies it has. Best of all, buy it. And buy the soundtrack. And go tell Terrance Zdunich what you think of it.... or him.... this is him....

And if I need to elaborate on that, you just don't get me :P. EDIT - his website contains bugs and cockroaches, just so you know.

We'll be hosting a REPO! night at some point soon, so if you aren't sure, come along to that to test the waters. I'll even set up a 'chill out' room for those who really don't like it. But give it a go, if you remotely think you might enjoy it.

Because it, in my humble opinion, is made of win.

By the way, if anyone see's this for sale again, I will adore and worship you forever if you manage to get me one. I will of course reimburse (and I'll most probably manage to get one myself as I'm checking the site daily so probably best just to ping me and let me know they're for sale again when I think about it...);

Comment with your address (even if I've written to you recently ish - I'm a sod for loosing them / not writing down) and next time in the mood to put pen to paper, you might just get one from me.

Open to everyone on my friends list, though of course, some of you might be more difficult to write to than others but that's half the fun!

NB - Comments are ALWAYS automatically screened on my journal, so don't worry about commenting. Or you could link me to your lj posts which hold such info if you'd prefer.

So some of you will know, but most won't, that I'm a bit of a fussy bugger when it comes to incense. Ignoring the fact that I have been known to make my own (which reminds me, I've got a project to finish), I have a small and select few which I find to be just perfect. Nag Champa is NOT one of these - to me, it smells like week old sick that's had the benefit of the summer Sun beaming down on it. Not good (and apologies to those of you who like it).

My "stick incense" recommendations to anyone would be ...cut for those who've no interest, which is likely everyone except for Jen! )

I *may* go to the doctors sometime soon, a) to check and see that I'm not at deaths door (I've dreamt about things which have come to fruition and it felt like one of those, so not risking it) and b) to see if there's something he recommends to stop nightmares.

If you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you might have missed a thoroughly wonderful "dark drama sitcom" called 'Being Human', which is currently available here for now.

If a (very cute, slightly broody, sexeh dark, tall and handsome with an Irish accent) Vampire (who I MIGHT have a teensy bit of a crush on), a (goofy, geeky, awkward but thoroughly adorable glasses wearing) Werewolf (who I just want to hug but he'd probably run a mile) and a (sweet, smily, cute) Ghost (who is pure sunshine when she's happy) were housemates in the world as is, this is roughly what you'd get.

Please, BBC 3, please continue this series. It's making Sunday evenings very interesting!

If you're in Nottingham today (or can be) and have nothing to do from about 2pm to 5pm, how about joining in with a world record attempt?

Zombie Thriller Dance

They'll kit you out, train you to walk and talk and dance like a zombie... and surely, thats far more important than your current plans anyway?

So I know that the more tech savvy of you are going to berate me for still having a hotmail account, but I can't get into the blasted thing. For the past 24 hours at least, each time I try to login I get the following message;

Windows Live Hotmail was not able to sign in to your account at this time. Please try again later.

I've tried accessing from different computers on different networks (ie work and home) to no avail.

I've sent a couple of test emails to see if the account has been closed without my knowledge but so far, they haven't bounced.

I'm well below my space / size limit on my account.

Is anyone else having the same problem and if so, what did you do to resolve it? I've tried the windows online help thingymajig but to be perfectly honest, I'm now more confused than I was to begin with!!!

ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!

NB - I NEED to get into my email account to check up on potential job offers etc.

[livejournal.com profile] devalmont, [livejournal.com profile] huggirl and me (along with lots of other wonderful people) were at Bump 'n Grindhouse last night and I have to say, it rocked my little socks.

Really enjoyed the music, the acts and it was nice to see how much effort people had made with outfits. As a venue, it's in a brilliant location. My only criticism would be the bar - although the staff were very attentive and quick, it could have done with having a bit more light at / near it.

I especially enjoyed the choccies which [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man handed out. :)

Good job and well run night kudos and general thanks for being there and doing your various stuff to [livejournal.com profile] pinkapplejam, [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man, [livejournal.com profile] alixandrea, [livejournal.com profile] bethany_eowyn (I'm looking forward to seeing the photos), [livejournal.com profile] dj_slingshot and all the bods with no ljs too :).

And thanks for lifts and / or other generic awesomeness to [livejournal.com profile] c0rvu5r3x, [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke and [livejournal.com profile] razornet. Rich and Jen especially for putting up with a moody, hungry me when we got back!

How to Get Along with Me

  • * Give me space to be alone.

  • * Acknowledge the contributions I make, but don't flatter me.

  • * I often speak in an assertive way. Don't automatically assume it's a personal attack.

  • * When I scream, curse, and stomp around, try to remember that's just the way I am.

What I Like About Being a Bette
