[Level - Public]

I've seen this on [livejournal.com profile] diasporal_waves's lj and a few others in various different formats. Apologies if you've seen this already.

Paraphrased from other journals: Petition against Pay As You Go road tax )

Having personally visited the site, it DOES have to be said that this is NOT a government endorsed petition, it is merely hosted on the Downing Street website and signing it is the same as signing a paper petition which is then delivered to Downing Street. Anyone is able to create a petition there (and if you look through the rejected petitions, you'll see some rather amusing ones regarding mice and unicycles).

The government are under no obligation to look at or act upon it but it is, at least, phsyically there in front of them.

I would also add that by writing down your email address, house number and postcode, the writer of the petition is able to contact you at your own address so be aware of this. Only sign if you are comfortable releasing your personal details to some-one you don't know.

I, personally, will not be signing it as I don't feel comfortable passing on my personal details. However, I have privacy issues. Also, I'm not sure from looking at it why you then have to click on a link sent to you via email. It seems a little dubious to me.

Additionally, this information has being going through the rounds on email and should you wish to take a look here, [livejournal.com profile] mrmmarc makes some very interesting comments regarding the email and or subsequent lj entries taken from it.

The choice is yours but be aware!

I have an increasing suspicion that this is 'a bit dodgy'.
