[Level - Public]
I've spoken to my parents today - they've been out assessing the damage. They're ok as they live at the top of a steep hill, go camping all the time so have a gas stove to use for cooking and heat etc. Apparently the electricity isn't going to be on for some time yet, as the main substation was flooded and they're only just able to get in to clean it. It has then to be dried out and tested before it can be repaired so all in all...
The local radio stations are being bombarded by people offering their spare rooms for members of the 8000 homes which have been evacuated.
There's a makeshift Police Station outside M&S and the Fire Station has been relocated (both were flooded). The hospital was spared any major problems but the situation with the roads means that ambulances and everything else couldn't get through yesterday - today is marginally better as the water has started to recede.
