Ok. So maybe this is partly my fault for being so 'Miss Valentines' this year. Admittedly, I've been all 'spread the love' 'isn't it fun and giggly' and so on. I like telling my friends I love them and it's nice to hear it back. If it's lighthearted and silly;

Roses are Red
Voilets are Blue
Sugar is Sweet
You smell like poo!

from a friend xxx

Then fine! Great! THATS what I like. Silliness and sweet, clearly friendly but not at all inappropriate.

I got in tonight and discovered I'd been sent 2 cards. I automatically assumed they'd be from girly friends and that they'd have something jokey in them - as you all know, I have my [livejournal.com profile] devalmont and I'm very happy with him.

But one in particular was serious, the kind of thing I'd expect Rich to say to me or vice versa - I don't recognise the writing so can't approach people directly, otherwise I would already have done so. Of course, it was going to raise my darling's suspicions that I have encouraged people to say things not entirely appropriate and which aren't respectful of my relationship with him. Flattering though it is to get cards, I'm peeved that the sender thought it was ok to be seriously romantic, and that I'd appreciate their gesture. I don't and I'm not a happy girl.

The other one was, I think, a girly (or blokey) silly but it's not entirely clear.

Regardless, if you are sending a card, please take into account who the receiver is, and their relationship status. If it's a silly, make it obvious. If it's serious, make sure the sender will appreciate it.

It's rather taken the shine off things for me.

Lol - I'm not looking for denials and to be honest, doubt anyone is going to come forward. They'd have to have balls of steel to!

But thank you. And despite all of this? Happy Valentines Day, you're a good friend to so many people and we appreciate it.
