They were just chancers out for booze and cash. REALLY miffed that they got my Jacobs Creek wines... bet they don't appreciate anything other than White Lightning and Lambrini
We were two doors down from _vampy_'s house, on our way to scarybex's party. It was pouring with rain and sapphrine was a few paces in front of me.
I wasn't feeling overly happy with the two scallies behind us, but as they'd overtaken us at one point and stopped to look around (which I assumed was to get their bearings but in hindsight to check if anyone was near) I thought I was being a tad paranoid.
I was trying to catch up with sapphrine to suggest we hurry a little more and cross the road, when they rushed us from behind and the taller of the two grabbed sapphrine, the shorter of the two grabbed me. They then pulled out what initially looked like a knife, but was in fact a screwdriver, and asked me for all my money.
I managed to convince them that they didn't want my bag (make up is damn expensive and would have cost a bomb to replace plus my phone and house keys were in there too) and didn't want my purse (traipsing all the way home again to get my card number to start cancelling everything would have been rather annoying, plus other cards I couldn't have replaced... I carry sentimental junk with me at all times!). So they got the £15 in notes, and the change which was about £5 worth from me, took the wine (VERY annoyed about that - the white was beautifully chilled, the red a gorgeous one).
What they DIDN'T get was the £40 on sapphrine, or the bottle of rum in his holdall. We both protested that we'd nothing else was we were going to a house party and had no need to carry much with us.
As they walked off, they wished us a Happy New Year. Bastards.
Anyhow, the police arrived very quickly and drove us round to see if we could spot them, to no avail. Then dropped us at the party.
Oh, and thanks to the full taxi of people that drove slowly past and away again, the car that drove past us and the man on the other side of the street for doing sweet f.a. I hope that should they ever be caught up in something, people are a little more caring and helpful for them though it's far more than they deserve.
I wouldn't dare get physically involved if I saw something like that happen but I might shout from a distance, hidden or call the police from my mobile out of hearing range, or failing that knock on a door or two to get phone/physical assistance for the victims.
